Objectives of the Toolkit
This Toolkit has been developed by Professor Carolyn Hamilton of Coram Children’s Legal Centre for the UNICEF Office for the Eastern Caribbean Area in partnership with UN Women Caribbean Sub Regional Office. The aim of this Toolkit is to improve the capacity of government, civil society organisations, parliamentarians and media professionals to enable compliance with reporting obligations under CRC and CEDAW by enhancing understanding of the CRC and CEDAW, the State Periodic Reporting Process to the CRC and CEDAW Committees, and the NGOs Shadow/Alternative reporting to the CRC and CEDAW Committees.
In the long term, the overall objective is to contribute to the attainment of international goals and commitments made by countries in the Caribbean sub-region and strengthen the national capacities to put in place a system to monitor and implement CRC and CEDAW Concluding Observations, and General Comments and Recommendations, respectively.
This Toolkit seeks to achieve this by enhancing the skills and professional expertise of professionals to undertake a timely Reporting Process that is participatory, that integrates the voices of most excluded populations and vulnerable women, girls and boys and that is in line with the expectations and guidance of the UN CEDAW and CRC Committees.
